Availability

  • When will HalePlus homes be available?

We anticipate HalePlus® homes to be available in late 2020. In the meantime, we are honoring our owner-employees with the first opportunities to become HalePlus Home Owners, and are collaborating with community partners to support shelter-based projects for those that are houseless or in need.

We encourage you to sign-up for our e-newsletter to stay updated on HalePlus news and other releases! If youʻd like to talk with a HalePlus home consultant, please fill out our Request Information form and someone will be in touch with you.

  • Are HalePlus homes available only on the Big Island?

The County of Hawaii has been integral in reducing barriers to make affordable housing options possible, and at present HalePlus plans are designed for use within this county only. Our 17 traditional pre-approved HPM Homes plans are available for construction on all islands.

Build

  • Do I need to get a building permit for these homes?

Yes, and HPM will guide you every step of the way through the permitting process. Securing a permit also allows you to apply for bank financing and home insurance.

  • How is a HalePlus home built?

HalePlus homes are pre-assembled in modules at HPM's manufacturing facility in Keaau, then installed on your lot by a licensed general contractor. The home's foundation has been engineered for most soil conditions on Hawaii Island. Learn more.

  • How long does a HalePlus home take to build?

The home build process is expected to be completed in a few weeks, not including the home installation. A HalePlus homeowner will ideally be able to take delivery of a pre-approved base model within two months of the manufacturing start date, though wait times will vary based on demand.

  • How big are HalePlus homes?

The smallest HalePlus homes are about 300 sq. ft. Your HalePlus home can be expanded to fit your family with a variety of optional add-on modules that can increase home size.

  • Can I add on rooms to my HalePlus home?

HalePlus homes are specifically designed to easily add rooms so you’ll always have just the right size home for your current needs. Our plans include many optional configurations to add an extra bedroom or home office. Please note that a renovation permit is required by the County of Hawaii for these additions.

  • Can I customize my home design?

Although the plans are modular, for permitting and manufacturing efficiency, we cannot deviate from the pre-set plans. However, the existing HalePlus floor plans do include many opportunities for customization. You may also choose from a variety of finish materials to fit your budget, and color palettes to match your taste.

  • Can I construct a HalePlus home as an owner-builder?

HalePlus homes must be built in our controlled factory environment and installed by a licensed contractor that has gone through our HalePlus training process. For information about our 17 other home plan options that will allow you to construct your home as an owner-builder, you can speak to one of our HPM Homes consultants in any of our Hilo, Kona or Waimea stores.

Costs

  • How much does a HalePlus home cost?

HalePlus homes can generally be built for less than $75,000 for a base one bedroom model, and even less for our studio.

  • What is included in the cost of a HalePlus home?

Everything needed to build the home structure is included with your HalePlus home, including the solar hot water system, floor coverings, cabinets and countertops, paint and even appliances. • How do I pay for a HalePlus home?

Many HalePlus customers will have a construction loan, which includes the cost of materials, labor and delivery. After your financing is secured to launch your home's construction, you'll make payments on the loan each month, similar to a traditional mortgage. We have also partnered with Bank of Hawaii to offer homeowners a special HPM HalePlus Loan Program. Other local lending institutions offer a myriad of financial options, we implore you to see what solution works for you.

Location

  • What are the lot requirements for a HalePlus home?

HalePlus homes will fit on most lots. Our home planning experts can assist you with determining what site planning issues may need to be addressed.

  • Can I relocate my HalePlus home?

Yes, HalePlus homes are uniquely designed to be transportable. When you're ready, we can help you fully understand the steps of relocating, including detaching the home module, securing new building permits, preparing the new site and reconnecting your home.
